unable to view photos on tv

hey all,

I'm wondering, did Apple remove this feature from the iPad 1, or is there a setting I am missing? I am able to view Netflix or other video but the iOS app Photos does not display out to my tv. I am using a standard HDMI cable connected to an HDMI to iDevice converter and as mentioned earlier, Video plays out to tv with no issues.
(I searched for this and found nothing. tv is not a long enough word to include in the search)
