Hi all,

I'm living in the UK but going to the US in 3 weeks.

Would it be cheaper to buy an iPad 2 in the US or here in the UK?

The apple website says the iPad 2 is $499 (£312) in the US or £399 in the UK. However, is there tax added etc at checkout in the US.

Trying to find the cheapest way to own one.

I look forward to your replies and thanks.

Will you be visiting family that could receive it for you? All in all it will be maybe 30$ difference. Do y'all have excise taxes?

Yes - an iPad bought in the US and then brought back to the UK would attract a 20% VAT (Value Added Tax) and Import Duty. However, in some (all?) states in the US items bought for export can have the sales tax refunded at the airport if the purchaser presents the receipt at the special office there. Perhaps US posters know which states have this or which airports?
