Using Dropbox and Cloudon

I'm a total novice with ICT, although I use Microsoft Word SmartBoard notebook at work on the P.C.
Please can someone give me some simple instructions on how to use Cloudon (I can create a document but have no idea how to save it or where). And Dropbox... What is that? I was told to get it and WriteRoom (and that's another story) but I just cannot use it.
I want to use my iPad for work and not just for playing games. Any advice is gratefully welcomed.
