Very odd discovery

Last night I discovered that if I pressed the 'home' button 3 times in rapid successions ALL the emails that I ever sent would come up. I was able to open them and could even send them again. Emails that I had sent which had picture attachments were still available! But this morning, no matter how hard I try, I am unable to bring up my old emails. What do you suppose could be happening? I have the Ipad3 with the latest IOS.

I assume you did this within the mail app? I could not make it happen...and good thing too...that would be a lot of emails to have pop up. I can't imagine a reason for a feature such as this.

Apparently not! If I tapped anywhere on my Ipad I could see them. But I cannot do it at all this morning!! That is so very odd! I have been reading Ipad forums occasionally but have never come across this peculiar behaviour. That is the reason I subscribed to this forum today to see what others think of this.

Hm,

Normally a triple home button click brings up an accessibility option(s), depending on your settings in Settings > General > Accessibility. If nothing is set up there, it does nothing. Well, not nothing. It acts like a double click.

I can not think of any reason for Mail to open, let alone do what you describe, (which sounds like opening your Trash or Sent folder). So, unless it comes back I'd have to say it's a one time glitch.

I'd mention the possibility of a jailbreak tweak (well I guess I am actually mentioning it), but if you are running iOS 6 as you say, that is not in the cards, or buttons either.

My Ipad hasn't been jailbreaked. I'm the original owner and I am the only one using it. Haven't been able to replicate this 'oddity' today so it must be a one time glitch as you say. So odd too that it only brought up my old SENT e-mails and nothing else. Very odd.

I wonder. Did it look anything like this?

If so, you somehow managed to do a search. Two clicks, not too close together, will bring you to the Search screen; unless you are already at the left most home screen, in which case one click will do.

I'm having trouble imagining a combination of home button and accidental screen taps that would get you there and initiate a search. Also you should have seen more than email results unless your Spotlight settings (Settings > General > Spotlight) only have Mail selected.

But, assuming the screen shot looks familiar, that is what most likely happened; not ruling out some help from the previously theorized glitch. ;)

Never mind.

I did a little playing around, and based on how you described it working, the above is obviously not the answer. I'll leave the answer/post in place, because it might not be entirely useless, general-information wise. :)

-- Now I need to go and change by Spotlight settings back to normal. :D

Though…

If you add one more step that accidentally taps an email result that is in the Sent folder, it would open Mail to that Sent folder.

I know, the string of coincidence is a bit too long to be believable.

Just rolling the ideas around in my head and posting them for no good reason, other than I feel like it.

I've tried on 5.1.1 to duplicate and nothing. With no open apps nothing, with mail opened but 'minimized' nothing and with mail open and active it still acts like a double click with a third to drop the window back down. I then home + sleep/wake and shutdown then restarted and tested again with no change in results.

That's more home button use than I've done total since I discovered the 4 finger swipe.
