What does iTunes "Backup" on my iPad?

Every time I sync my iPad to iTunes, it does a 'Backup' initially (step 1) followed by copying, etc. My question is - What does it backup? (contents?) I only ask cos it's eating up my drive space very quickly every time I sync! Does it backup my Apps and Movies? (I know its not my podcasts and song files)

Please help!

It does not backup ANY media files- Be it movies, TV shows, music, podcasts, etc.. iTunes only backs up your device information, your apps (and their data) and your personal stuff (Mail settings, contacts, calendar, etc.)

Have u got some movies on some apps like OPLAYER HD or CINEXPLAYER? Then it backs them too...hence ur losing all those space...not the videos in itunes...but the videos in ur apps!

Exactly what i thought! Damn, must remember to delete those in-app magazines + movies i uploaded from my HD to the ipad to save them from being backed up again!

My backup file seems oddly large tho at 2.31GB now (I have about 70 apps)
