What is the option of "Places" inside Photos?

I have an iPad1. Within Photos I can see captions of Photos, Albums and Places. I go into Places and see a screen of grid with 3 movable tack-nails, the fixed word Google at the left bottom corner and the fixed words "@2013 Google" at the middle bottom.

What does this option or screen do? I can't see the relevant help in the iPad User Guide.

Places uses part of the EXIF data from your photographs to pinpoint where the photograph was taken.
