What kind of speeds with LTE?

I bookmarked this in December because I thought it a useful illustration of probs in unifying 4G worldwide:

With 38 frequency flavors, LTE won’t unify 4G — Mobile Technology News

Thanks for that.. quite interesting.. picture looks worse than I thought.. I did'nt realise that in the USA your frequencies are not the same across the country either, I didn't know those 2 big networks used different freqs too. AAMOI in the USA do you have to buy a specific iPad to suit a particular 4G network or is the iPad3 smart enough to switch between them..?

LTE varies by carrier. For example, LTE on AT&T is very good in most of Oklahoma, but some areas are dealing with HSPA+ for now. Yet, across the border in Kansas, you cannot even get decent 3G coverage over a large area. Verizon is about the same in that they have strong areas and areas without good coverage. right now there are not chips available that can handle the multiple frequencies available. Just like when the iPad was first brought to Verizon, it took its own separate iPad. Then the iPad 2 came out with both carriers on one. The next iPad will probably come with a multi frequency chip with enough range to take care of most carriers with the right sim card.

It comes down to what's the most reliable, speediest service you can get for the best price wherever you frequent and travel. Ads that scream about great coverage nationwide, for instance, do you no good unless the coverage is good where you live and travel.

For me, GSM is an additional consideration, because of time spent abroad.

I just did another test. Seems pretty fast tonight. We have a clear night sky here tonight maybe that made the difference. It is fast though.

OK, all you guys in Canada and the states, try not to laugh too loudly!

Here's my results in Scotland UK, using the provider Three (3).

No LTE, just 3G services for us on this model iPad.

Thought I'd put a smile on your face...lol

In use, both download and upload speeds are a little 'Peeky'.

Hands up, who's impressed? :D

Great 3G, for sure! Is 3G supposed to be able to achieve speeds like those?

AT&T 4G works amazingly quickly in the Washington DC area. It is not available in all markets though and will fall back to 3G when 4G is unavailable. The downside, of course, is the price of that speed.

Hey, I'm impressed. That's way better 3G speeds than Verizon offers in the states. :D!

Well I am for one..lol.. Those figures are superb for 3G in the UK.

I use T-Mobile/Orange for my 3G and mine are really crap compared to your's, those figures are nearly as fast as my main wired Net connection.

Looks like me getting a 3 network 3G card and give that one a go myself.

Massively impressed, I get 6mbps on my home broadband in the middle of England, sob sob

For some reason Miami/Ft Lauderdale isn't even on AT&T map of current 4G or coming soon. I can't understand it because this is probably the most populated area of the state. The have Naples getting 4G next and they are small compared to south east Florida.
