Since you like the Beethoven symphonies, have you heard the set conducted by René Leibowitz for Readers Digest in 1962? They were reissued on CD by Chesky, if you can't find an original box set or don't have a turntable. The Ninth is especially good, in fact my favorite. I'll still take Bruno Walter on Columbia for the Sixth, though.

I have to confess: although they're from Austria, I didn't know them. It's not the sort of music I listen to. You're right, her voice is powerful. I like this video.
