Handel's Messiah, Christopher Hogwood on a 1980 L'Oiseau-Lyre LP set. Probably wont get through the whole oratorio tonight. I love this version, a small-scale, original-instrument performance intended to duplicate a specific 1754 event conducted by Handel himself. It just seems more "right" to me than the typical modern, bombastic extravaganzas. YMMV, of course.

I do not mind modern interpretations just as long as I have a chance to hear it as we assume it must have sounded. Have you heard Justin Bieber's version? Magical I say, just magical. BTW: I approve of your preference.
