Have you ever felt you might vibrate into a parallel universe? ;)

Absolutely. When "Green Mountain" acquired two Canadian coffee companies ( Timothy's and Van Houtte ) in 2009 / 2010 respectively, a great deal was written about the profit margins associated with single servings.

It goes way beyond the higher consumer cost for convenience and right to the origin of the coffee.
Less expensive Robusta beans are used in the process of making the pods.

Good to know. But it sounds like the convenience is worth the tradeoff of lesser coffee for many one-cup owners?

I'm eagerly waiting for my husband to make coffee and red velvet waffles today. I'm trying to be good and not make noises and wake him to do that, though, lol.

Then you would never want to get the coffee maker with the bean grinder built in. ;)

I hear that. For me it's part caffeine and part routine.

Lol. Kitchen is far from bedroom, and I think his snoring would drown out a grinder.

We have a grind and brew. It is seriously loud. Somehow, though, everyone sleeps through it.

He's up and grinding Peet's Major Dickason's blend, our favorite. No smell of waffles yet, but I'm sniffing around, lol.

OK, I tried comparing various one-cuppers online and am confused by all the choices. I read reviews of malfunctions and breakages and don't know which to buy.

Which model did you get?

I got the Keurig Platinum model. Two people I know have it and are happy with it, and my brother recommended a large water reservoir so I don't have to refill as often.

Also, it works as quickly and easily as people say. I'm a little concerned about the cost of k-cups but I've heard that good deals can be found. When I registered with Keurig I got a coupon code to get two boxes of cups free when I buy two more.

Thanks. That's all useful to know.

In case you're interested, I stumbled across this earlier when I was looking up one-cuppers on Amazon:

There's an outfit that sells a 30 K-cup sampler for about $30, which is sort of pricey, but they let you pick every one of those 30 from a selection of about maybe 50 K cups, so you can try out many brands and flavors without buying a boxful of each and maybe not liking them.

I'll look for that. The sign up deal from Keurig makes the cups about .35 each. I've also heard that Supervalu grocery stores (Albertsons, etc) has a generic brand that is inexpensive but good.

Hi Kay,

If you happen to be passing through London you can try the nespresso machine in Selfridges, they have a little bar there in the basement section......if I were only a coffee drinker I'd upgrade to that machine.

After doing lots of research online yesterday I'm sticking with my Dolce Gusto as it still seems to suit me best.
