Hi,
I recently bought an iPad 2, wireless not 3G. Used it when travelling with wifi in cafes etc. but this was not always available. Is it possible to have some sort of 'dongle' or mobile modem? Is this what MyWifi is? Where do I buy it? Thanks, Ailene

Hi there Ailene and welcome.

Mifi is indeed a portable wireless wifi device which converts 3G into wireless (so it won't be as fast as a landline broadband solution) and can be bought from 3, they have shops in many town centres and also a google search will find them online.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend.......and please don't forget to read the rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html & hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. A link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

I use the '3' MiFi and it's great - very small, great battery life, great sensitivity, '3' is 3.5G or HSDPA (for all you geeks) so you get a great speed..

Plus - you can allow up to five users to use the WiFi link at any one time!! It also has a great little display that tells you a whole load of interesting stuff - battery life, number of connected users, network name, etc etc. One advantage of the '3' network, other than it's all 3G (so no EDGE or GPRS) is that, when your PAYG card has run out, you can still connect to the '3' website to 'top up' online - no need to visit a shop or make a 'phone call. Any surfing on the '3' site is not counted in the total data usage either, so you can always check how much data you've got left without using up your allowance.

Are you able to use your All You Can Eat Sim in the mifi?

I'm thinking of getting a PAYG High Speed Mifi dongle, and it looks like you can top up and buy All You Can Eat for £15 per month.

If not, what tariff/bolt on do you use?

Cheers,

Richard
