Will a Case Block 3G Signals?

I'm a noobie, so this may be a dumb (or already discussed) question. I bought a Kensington case with keyboard and it's seem like the 3G (AT&T) signal I get is much better when I take the iPad out of the case.

Can the case actually block or hinder the 3G reception?

Do you have a cell phone ... is it in a case ... does it work? If so it is logical that the iPad will also work in a case. The case is plastic, leather or cloth, not metal and it is not grounded.

I have a Blackberry that has a data plan, but it doesn't have a case, so I can't answer that. I just ran a bunch of speed tests and it was faster out of the case. It could be coincidence, or have something to do with the building I'm in.
