Yahoo IM on iPad3 ???

I am new to the iPad, just bought the new model a week ago, but I have been using Yahoo IM for years. I dowloaded the Y-IM app and got it running with no problem, however I cannot figure out how to be online for some of my contacts and invisible to others. Is that a feature of the new version (I am happily using 10.0.0.1270 on my laptop), or am I missing something?
