Just a few days after the surprise announcement confirming its existence, the 128 GB version of the full-sized iPad is now available in Apple’s online store. MacRumors reports that there does not appear to be too much of a shipping delay in the store for anyone wanting to buy one, with most stores in most countries still being able to ship out most models in 1-3 business days. The Wi-Fi + Cellular versions are in slightly scarcer supply, as you’ll have to wait 3-5 days for shipping of those, which is still not bad going. Of course, this is a very high-end piece of kit, with the Wi-Fi-only model costing $799, and the Wi-Fi+ Cellular top-of-the-range edition costing $929, so it’s probably more likely that there is less demand for this top-end model, as opposed to the basic 16GB Wi-Fi-only version, for example, or the iPad mini. It could also be that Apple is just very well stocked up on the new model, of course, which it says has been released primarily (but not solely, of course!) to benefit professionals such as designers who use AutoCAD WS for iOS, or high-end music recording and editing apps, such as WaveMachine Labs’ Auria iOS app. The CEOs of some major companies have been quoted by Apple as examples of the sort of users and companies who will appreciate more storage capacity on their iPads.

“Our AutoCAD WS app for iOS was designed to give customers seamless access to their designs anywhere, anytime,†said Amy Bunszel, vice president of AutoCAD products for Autodesk. “These files are often large and highly detailed so having the thin and light iPad with its Multitouch display, integrated camera and all-day battery life, is a real advantage for iPad users to view, edit and share their AutoCAD data.â€

“The features and capabilities of iPad give us the ability to set a new standard for multitrack recording and editing on a mobile device,†said Rim Buntinas, WaveMachine Labs’ CEO. “Users of the Auria app can play 48 mono or stereo 24bit/96 kHz tracks simultaneously, record up to 24 of those tracks simultaneously, and also edit and mix with familiar tools. With its portability and all-day battery life, iPad has revolutionized recording for audio professionals allowing artists to record anywhere.â€

“The bottom line for our customers is winning football games, and iPad running our GamePlan solution unquestionably helps players be as prepared as possible,†said Randall Fusee, Global Apptitude Co-Founder. “The iPad’s unbeatable combination of security, being thin and light, having an incredible Retina display and also being powerful enough to handle large amounts of data enables us to deliver a product that takes film study to a new level and ultimately gives our users the best opportunity to prepare, execute and win.â€

Are you going to be lucky enough to get one, or just looking?

Grr, I knew I should have waited when I got the iPad 3...
I could really use the extra GB, with my 64 GB almost full... :(

I'm glad I skipped the iPad 4. Now I'll wait to see what the iPad 5 gets, or if the Mini 2 gets the upgrade (though I'm still iffy about the smaller display).

Sweet.....but I'm going to be doing some waiting....seems like too much stuff is around the corner for me...

I wonder how it will do seeing as the 5 is basically right around the corner. Grab some popcorn and watch this unfold :)

I want 128GBs, but I'm waiting for iPad 5. That will replace my iPad 2. iPad 5 will go better with my iPad 4. Then I'll have both on lightning plugs instead of having diff plugs now.

Oh yeah, forgot about the different plugs issue. Hmmmmmmm......

Wow! I just got an email today 02/13 from Sam's Club (this is a members-only discount store affiliated with Walmart, here in the USofA) telling me that they have iPads with Retina Display available in the 128G size storage in black or white, wifi or 4G. This is the first time I got such an email from Sam's on an Apple product. I suppose that would be a good Valentine's gift?
