According to a new report on Japanese Apple website Mac Otakara, via MacRumors, Apple’s new AirPower wireless charging mat could be onsale as soon as March. The news comes from “reliable sources,” apparently, and backs up previous similar claims from The Apple Post earlier this month.
AirPower, which was announced by Apple last September, is an oval charging mat that uses Qi-compatible charging technology to charge several different devices at the same time. Currently only the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, and Apple Watch Series 3 are able to take advantage of this. However, it’s expected that AirPods will soon be added to the list once the forthcoming AirPods wireless charging case is released this year. The Apple Post AirPower story actually said that the AirPods charging case would be released on the same day as AirPower, but Mac Otakara does not refer to this.
The source does not reveal any details about pricing for the AirPower wireless charging mat, but MacRumors predicts that it should cost around $199, judging by a leaked price listing that appeared on a Polish website last November.
