Analog Mixer to Garageband

Good afternoon. My friend has a Behringer mixer with an RCA to usb cable. I connect this to a PC and can record in Audacity with no trouble. When I connect to an iPad with a cable adapter, I can't change the input from "mic" to any channel in Garageband.

Any thoughts?

I have pretty bad experiences with cable adapters to USB. Apple's own didn't work for recording. I tried adapters and splitters and so on, but it never worked. Well, it did the first time and never after. The only reliable way to record audio on an iPad is with an audio interface.
