AppleInsider reports today on a new note to investors from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, who says that he believes that Apple’s forthcoming iPad mini will retail for $299, and will have 16GB of storage. He positions the much-rumoured tablet as slotting in between the $199 8GB iPod touch and the $399 16-GB iPad 2. Munster goes on to say that he thinks that an iPad mini would cannibalize 10% of current iPad sales and 30% of total Android tablet sales in the December quarter. Based on this, Munster says that he thinks that Apple could sell from 4-6 million of these new, smaller iPads in that vital December quarter, and that if it was released in the fourth quarter, the iPad mini would add around 1% to Apple’s revenue and earnings-per-share for the quarter. AppleInsider notes that Munster had previously said that he expected Apple to release a smaller version of the iPad in the first quarter of 2013, but it sounds like he is falling into line with the general consensus that the iPad mini will be released this year.
