According to new data from mobile analytics firm Flurry, via MacRumors, Apple’s iPhone and iPad were once again the most popular mobile devices given as presents during this year’s holiday season.
Flurry analysed all tablet and smartphone activations worldwide in the week before Christmas and just after Hanukkah (December 19 to December 25), and found that 44% of all new device activations were Apple devices, with Samsung having just 26% of activations, and the rest, including the likes of Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola, LG, OPPO and Vivo, all having around 2% to 5% each.
At 44%, Apple’s activation numbers are identical to those of a year ago, while Samsung’s have increased a little, up from 21%.
In terms of a breakdown of specific devices, Flurry’s data shows that Apple’s iPhone 7 was the most popular of its devices, with 15.1% of activations. The iPhone 6 was just behind, with 14.9% of activations, and the iPhone X was right behind the iPhone 6 with 14.7 activations, and more popular than the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which had 8.1% and 8.7% respectively.
