Tech Crunch writes today that according to a new report in The Wall Street Journal, Apple has ordered over 10 million iPad minis from its supply chain for Q4. The WSJ says that this will be Apple’s initial order for its forthcoming tablet, which is double the number of Kindle Fire tablets ordered by Amazon, which will be seen as the iPad mini’s major competition, alongside the Nexus 7 from Google, and possibly some Windows 8 tablets when they emerge. Tech Crunch reiterates the previous rumours that say that the iPad mini will have a 7.85-inch screen, and that it will have a lower-resolution screen than that of the current iPad, so possibly will not have a Retina display. Although Apple has yet to make any official comment whatsoever regarding the launch of the iPad mini, it is believed that the invitations to the launch event will be sent out on October 10, with the event itself taking place on October 17.
