Apple is set to build a new mega facility in the upcoming next ten years, and make a $1 billion investment. The information has been revealed by the Reno Gazette Journal who happened to come across some online postings from city officials in Reno, Nevada. The new deal apparently involves a vast iCloud data center and a business park in down town Reno plus an independent 2,200 acre data farm to be built in Sparks, Nevada this time.

Curiously enough, Apple has confirmed the existence of the project in a statement:

“We hope to build Apple’s next data center in Reno to support Apple’s iTunes Store, App Store and incredibly popular iCloud services.
If approved, this project would expand our presence in Nevada and create hundreds of construction jobs over the next year, plus permanent jobs at the data center will add to our existing total of nearly 400 employees in the state.â€

The project has been codenamed “Project Jonathan†and is expected to create nearly 600 jobs in construction and another 200 contractor jobs when it's first opened. The center will of course boost the economy providing some extra revenue of $103 million. The project has been in development for quite some time now, but only recently did Apple start talks with officials.

So far, Apple owns a completely green energy data center in Maiden, North Carolina and another one in Newark, California. Also the Cupertino group will be investing the sum of $250 million in the creation of another center located in Prinevillle, Oregon.
