Apple is looking to add a new research and development unit to its Cupertino campus, as recent sketches that appeared this week indicate. The plans have been sent to the offices of Cupertino City in California and request approval for building a campus plus a parking lot that will accommodate about 5000 cars. What’s interesting is that the plans showcase an impressively large auditorium located underground that will be presumably the stage for future Apple important releases.

The new building will be a piece of futuristic architecture mostly made out of glass and looking like a spaceship. The research facility will take up to 300,000 square feet of space, thus housing more than 13,000 extra employees.

Interested parties can view these sketches and renderings on the official City of Cupertino website. Taking a closer look at the auditorium’s 3D drawings, one can notice that the hall will not just be a stage and seating area but will also accommodate a space intended for exhibition activities. Where is Apple planning to build its new quarters? Apparently on the grounds of a former Hewlett Packard campus.

But in order to make room for this piece of futuristic architecture, Apple must demolish all the remaining buildings on the site. The new center will also house a fitness center for employees, an energy center and a beautiful park that will circle the complex. The former Apple CEO was the one who proposed the project to the officials of Cupertino City last year and perhaps by 2015 we hope to see the building finished and ready to go.
