AppleInsider reports today on a new story in DigiTimes which says that according to its sources, companies in Apple’s manufacturing chain have started to send samples of 7.85-inch iPads to Apple for verification, prior to production, which would start possibly in Q3 2012. DigiTimes’ sources say that this new, smaller iPad could retail for approximately $249-$299. At the same time, the sources say, Apple will also release an 8GB iPad 2 for $349-$399, and also drop the price of the 16GB iPad 2 to $449. As AppleInsider notes, rumours of a “mini†iPad have been rife for some time, and started to sound a little more authentic last month with a story in The Wall Street Journal that said that Apple was readying an 8-inch iPad. All of this iPad activity from Apple is at the same time as the company is readying to launch the iPad 3 on March 7.[/FONT]
