MacRumors reports that according to a news story on Xinhua, a lawyer acting on behalf of Proview, the Chinese company that is sueing Apple in a trademark dispute over the “iPad†name, has said that Apple has made its first settlement offer in the ongoing case. According to the lawyer, Apple and Proview have discussed a compensation package, and Apple has offered an amount of money to settle the dispute, but Proview has yet to say whether or not it will accept the offer. MacRumors notes that even if Apple has put forward an offer, another report on Bloomberg says that the lawyer, Xie Xianghui, is claiming that there is still a “big gap†between Proview and Apple in terms of what each considers to be a satisfactory amount of compensation. The exact amount of money that Proview is suing Apple for has not been disclosed, but MacRumors says that sources have said it could be as much as $2 billion.
