Bloomberg Business reports today that following on from the launch of Jay Z’s new Tidal music service, Apple is looking to sign up such massive artists as Taylor Swift for exclusive deals with its own Beats Music service.
Bloomberg says that Apple has approached Taylor Swift, and other artists such as Florence and the Machine in a bid to sign them up for exclusive deals to promote Beats Music.
Florence and the Machine is set to release its long-awaited new album in June, and Apple is apparently hoping to negotiate limited streaming rights to one of the tracks, and has also asked Taylor Swift about a similar arrangement.
The thinking is that exclusive access to material from a favourite artist will make music fans more likely to pay a subscription for something that they are used to getting for free. It’s an approach that Tidal is already using, with exclusives from the likes of Beyonce and Rihanna.
The revamped Beats Music is expected to launch this summer, with a $9.99 per month subscription fee for individuals and a family subscription for $14.99, according to Bloomberg’s anonymous sources.
