MacRumors reports today that according to new figures from research company IDC, iPad is still the most popular tablet in the world by a massive margin, with the iPad outselling Samsung and Amazon combined in 2017.
Last year Apple sold 43.8 million iPads, as shown by its recently released quarterly results, and IDC estimates that Samsung and Amazon shipped 24.9 million and 16.7 million tablets respectively in the same time period, a total of 4.6 million tablets between the two of them.
In 2017 Apple had a 26.8% share of the tablet market, up by 2.5% year on year, which translates to approximately one in four tablets sold.
Apple’s growth in the tablet sector, while not huge, percentage-wise, bucks against the overall tablet market trend, which declined by 6.5% year over year.
As far as this year’s iPad line-up is concerned, Apple is expected to launch at least one new iPad Pro model, as well as updated versions of the 9.7-inch iPad and iPad mini models.
