What's new

Architecture - buildings that is

Views of Greenwich, London
The wide view is towards the Thames with the Royal Naval College beyond the Maritime Museum and the Queen's House in front.
The second image is of the bandstand in Greenwich Park
The remaining photos are of a colonnade to the Queen's House, the observatory buildings, and the mirrored roof to a fairly new high tech planetarium. The mirrors move to give interesting images of clouds.
The aircraft carrier is Ark Royal which visited every other year, drawing vast crowds of tourists to Greenwich
I must admit Greenwich is one of my favourite places to visit, and to take visitors. :)

These point blocks are, I believe, listed. They are in S.E. London. The lines of the blocks are well balanced and aesthetically pleasing.

The blocks are part of the Avondale Square housing estate owned by the London City Council.

These pictures are just too beautiful for words. As I posted yesterday, I was hoping that you would post more of these and today, I've been pleasantly surprised. My husband and I had always wanted to travel when we became empty-nesters and we talked about going over the ocean to see England first. Well, that won't happen now due to my medical issues and we are both only in our mid 50's. That's why I so appreciate this thread and IPF. I have learned so much and I've enjoyed your pictures these last couple of days. I've also learned long ago that by looking at a picture, you can go anywhere in your mind. Thanks so much, Richard! :D

Wow, being a Londoner and still working in the "smoke" your post reminded me of just how lucky I am........it's all to easy to get complacent about your surroundings.....if I was any good at photography I would add my own pics for you and your husband to see, but I'm rubbish with a camera and all you'd see is a blur due to camera shake!

That last one appears to be scaffolding, to be specific, tube and fittings......is it of historical significance?

That's Tyntesfield house from last year, remember all the millions from lottery to pay for it! I went this year without scaffolding but forgot iPhone in the car and was too late to go back and take photo of after scaffolding. I love my houses, how the other half used to live hey! I'm not bothered about all this them and us business, I'm just fascinated at how some of these buildings must have taken years to build and they are so beautiful. We spend most of our holidays going round these places. I'm sorry about the purple tinge to some of them, but my gadgitz iPhone cover got in the way and I didn't notice until afterwards. Grrrr!

That makes me extremely happy to hear that. If my post did that for you, then I've done my job for today! :D Sometimes we all become complacent about our lives and surroundings and we don't realize how lucky we really are! I've been lucky enough to have spent the last 30 years with my best friend. He takes better care of me than I think I deserve sometimes. I never expected my life to turn out this way; especially not so early in life. Neither did my husband. But it did and we have no choice but to live with it. So on we go...living our lives the best way we know how. I can tell that you're an extremely sensitive person and so I wish for you a very happy and healthy life and don't ever forget how lucky you really are! I just noticed your name "The Archangel" as your signature. It takes one to know one!

Yes it's easy to become complacent. My late aunt Marion used to say she had a love hate relationship with London. ;)
