Architecture - buildings that is

I've just been looking at the photos of Bruges. Great photos of an interesting looking city. We have yet to visit.

Yes, great photos. We visited the Louvre before the glass pyramid had been built. Must go back to Paris on Eurostar.

I've been beavering away with some photos of Dubai and taken during our flight back.

Let's start with our hotel. A very grand building, but expensive to build with it's huge enclosed spaces, roof top pool and one wing without access or rooms. The hotel has the travels of Ibn Battuta as it's theme. Each floor is named after a region he went to. I didn't realise he enjoyed China that much, with 2 floors devoted to Parking or is it Peking? 

Our bedroom had an unusual feature. A fold aside screen between it and the bathroom!

The Dubai Metro was superb. Very very clean and fully air-conditioned stations and trains. We found some of the best views of this futuristic city were to be had from the Metro. It was supplied by the Japanese.

One carriage in each train had 2 compartments one for first class and the other for women and children.

We took a full day's city tour which was a great move. We visited the Dubai Mall with an incredible aquarium. Adjacent to the mall is Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world the lift took under a minute to reach floor 124 - the observation platform.

We toured out along the Palm to see the Atlantis hotel. Well just a photo stop, but no visit inside.

The Souk and village was nice, although a reproduction of the old city. The open cooling towers are a prominent feature of the houses in the old city., and in the recreation Souk.

The last photo is of the bottom of the ski slopes at the Mall of the Emirates. It was bizarre to SE people in warm ski clothing there, while outside of the mall temperatures were 35 DegC! The 3 photos before the last are of the Marina all man made and to be extended.

Now for those aerial shots. Two are of Dubai.

Most are of the UK. The Straits of Dover. The Dartford crossing bridge. The Dome. The Olympic Park and a fuzzy one of Canary Wharf beyond the Olympic Park. The Olympic Rowing Arena. Eaton, and Windsor Castle.

Lastly views inside Terminal 5 at Heathrow. A great building which we used for the first time.
