Architecture - buildings that is

These two are Knightshayes House near Tiverton and Montisfont near Romsey. The walled garden has one if the largest collection of roses in the country!

I don't know why some are on their side!

What lovely places. I only found one, Knightshayes, in my copy of Hudson's Historic Houses. I see it is NT owned. I read the description too quickly. "This striking house...." as This stinking house...! A good Freudian 

There is a national trust app I use. Can't remember if it free though.

I'll look it up. I do have their free UK map as well as an invite to join when we visited Seffield Gardens in Kent

Interesting lot there Hayley. Salisbury Cathedral is superb. I knew Corfe from my college days.

Yes, Salisbury Cathedral was beautiful and there were statues dotted everywhere from an artist, can't remember his name.

Antoni Gaudi"s La Sagrada Familia

Richard:

I took these pics in Barcelona, Spain recently. They depict Gaudi's noted cathedral, La Sagrada Familia (Temple of the Holy Family).

Thanks jes1me. There was a TV programme about this building last week. I think the main spire is about to be erected. The interior is fabulous. We visited Barcelona about 5 years ago, but never got inside La Sagrada Familia. I think a return trip is due. :)

What a truly wonderful post this is, thank you everyone for all the photos. I have always loved architecture, same as I have always loved art. I truly hope that I will eventually see some of these amazing buildings. My eldest daughter is now in her final year of her Architectural Degree. I will be showing her this post in the morning. I'll try to coax her to allow me to post some of her designs. Not bad for a child whose favorite toy was Lego and was always building amazing structures with them.

My girlfriend took me there for my birthday after seeing 'In Brugges'. One of the shop-owners showed us pictures he had taken of him, Colin Farrell and Ralph Fienes. The people were really friendly even though I don't speak much French.

The city was great, full of crusade-era buildings and churches one of which is said to contain Jesus' blood. I would have posted pictures of the churches but cameras were not allowed. But the Inside of the churches was breathtaking.

View from the top of the Belfry tower, Part of the City hall, Belfry tower at night, Fountain outside of our hotel, stairway to one of the churches, Mason Lodge, one of the many canals in the city and a cool symbol of the city.
