AT&T iPad unlimited data signup ends at July 15th
Got the email from ATT about iPads ordered by 6/6

You must contact AT&T on or before July 15th.

I received the same e-mail from AT&T this AM. A few days ago, I had contacted Apple's support desk who connected with AT&T and got me the unlimited plan, which I closed on at the A&T store yesterday, but only after being totally "stonewalled" up to my call to Apple.

My suspicion is that AT&T saw a sharply rising problem coming at them, with minimally a class action lawsuit and probably damages, etc. so they decided to come clean and formalize the grandfather plan. Clearly not only the right thing to do but also the smart thing to do.
