Jim Dalrymple writes in The Loop today about Minneapolis-based band The Ultramods who have just released an album called “Underwear Party†that was recorded entirely on GarageBand for iPad. Every single instrument that was used on the recording came from GarageBand, and the vocals were even recorded on the iPad’s microphone! The band consists of Bunny Ultramod and Coco Ultramod and they say that they make music that is “fast, cheap, and out of control.†Here's a quote from the mission statement on their website.
“We Ultramods bought an iPad 2 about two weeks ago, and we’re releasing an album that was entirely recorded on the device this week. With the exception of the vocals, which were recorded through the iPad’s own microphone, and a few samples of dialogue taken off the Internet, every sound on the album was created using the software instruments in the device’s GarageBand program. And what could be more modern! But how to distribute the completed music?â€
The group themselves seem a bit of a mystery, making me wonder if they’re not actually a big name band in disguise. Their MySpace page is just a few days old, as are their Facebook and Twitter pages, and on their MySpace page under Type of Label it says “Major.†Intriguing! Wonder who it could be?!
