Battery issue

Hello everyone, I have just joined the forum and have an issue with my battery (or battery monitor). I have an IPad 1 which I have had for 18 months, with no issues. Over the past few days I have noticed that the battery constantly reads 100%, and then suddenly drops to its real value. The last time it happened it was actually only 8%, so I am likely to be caught out by it at some point. Any ideas why this is happening, and what can be done?

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Your battery should be allowed to discharge fully occasionally as this will recalibrate the usage meter. Have a look at this thread on this.

Apple recommends fully discharging your battery once a month, to keep your battery indicator accurate. If you try that and it doesn't work, your battery might need replacing. Apple will do that for about $100.
