Best chat app for meeting new people?

hi, I'm looking for a good app or two to use on the iPad that is for meeting new people....not connected with Facebook, as I,m barely on that. But similar to the old chat rooms on the web. Have any suggestions?

I don't use them, but there are several IRC apps that will let you visit those old chat rooms. Then it's just a matter of finding channels that interest you. Many, (but not all) web based chatrooms should work as well. Just visit the page using Safari, or your favorite third party browser.
