Big Mess with IPAD 2 and best buy

They even have shrink wraps that you can put on with a hairdryer now. I'm so glad I didn't get my iPad 2 at BEST buy!

See, its statements like this that, as a best buy employee really piss me off.

Y'all need to quit assuming that we are a bad company. We are not. We have a history of issues yes, but so does every company. This was one incident at one of our stores. This does not reflect upon our corporate policy nor does it mean we are all like this.

I read a story pretty much like this, here, when the first iPad hit. The news did get ahold if it I think ~ do a search here and see what the outcome was.

My iPad is my very first Apple product. My experience at the Apple store was amazing! Even for a few days after when I called them for so much help, they are wonderful.

I would never buy an Apple product anywhere but the my Apple store. I love going in there!

I hope things work out for you! Keep us posted!

Yep. Ditto for me. My iPad is my first Apple product and I got it at the Apple Store at the Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento. Good experience. Very helpful folks. Nice atmosphere, even if full of people and a bit noisy (I'm hearing impaired). I love how the Apple Store dedicates a rep to YOU until you're done with your business there. That's uber-cool.

freebird is right. I may not be crazy about Best Buy for a number of reasons (mostly due to their prices), but they generally run a decent ship and their folks are usually pretty helpful. This situation is more the exception than the rule. We have a new BB here in Auburn (35 minutes south of my house, which is THE closest electronics store to me-and dang it, they DON'T sell iPads there) and folks go there because it's convenient. But it's a nice store and I like to go in there from time to time. Then go next door and eat pizza!

Of course. I've just had a slew of crappy experiences at Best Buy (though nothing on par with this) so I can't stand the place and haven't shopped there in a couple years. Employees never know anything, selection sucks for anything but new releases these days (particularly the CD section), long check out lines, prices mostly stink these days etc.

Maybe I've just had bad lucks and had crappy stores in the last two places I've lived. And I'd also note that it's not limited to Best Buy. Retail stores in general just suck ass these days. I buy groceries, toiletries and clothing locally. Pretty much everything else I just order online, mostly from Amazon.

Point taken. Big box brick-and-mortar stores are losing their luster for a variety of reasons. When customer service takes a dive, products are crappy (even though prices are good) and the overall shopping experience is dulled by crowds of people, screaming kids, terrible food and capped off by LONG checkout lines because there are only two or three cashiers working (and all but ONE of the self-checkout stations are shut down), it really makes you think about ordering stuff online and having it delivered. Especially if you live in a rural area like me and B&M stores are often 40minutes to well over an hour away.

So as an "insider", is there anything you can suggest to the OP that might help him resolve this?

(It might be better to do it via a PM)

Well, let me state this for all to see so everyone understands:

Best buy policy is that any open box, regardless of purchase date cannot be returned, only exchanged. This is to protect us and the customer in the end. We are all trained to spot obvious repackaging, as the home dryer kits do have flaws.

Having said that, some people who work for best buy doin give a damn about our policy. These issues are few and far between.

The best advice I can offer to the OP is to return to the store with an officer, ask to speak to the regional manager, and have all of your receipts, serial numbers, etc on hand with you. Talk it over calmly, and explain to them that you will help the store in anyway possible. Get an open file with the police. Even if they do nothing, its better to have the open file than nothing.

Yep. Though I'm in a big city, so I have a lot of stores close by. But it's still just not worth the hassle most of the time. Especially with having Amazon Prime and getting things 2 business days after ordering.

I wish Amazon sold iPads so I could get the reward points on my Amazon Visa!

@ Freebird..i am going to best buy in next hour and will ask for a manager

should i call the cop in front of the best buy manager or report this to the cops and go there ??? (note i still have the shrink wrap with me and if have to go to an extreme of filing a case and do a freakin...forensic level to see if the best buy sales persons finger print was on it before me....and i will not let this go that easy)

Thanks

Small world, ain't it??

Actually, I don't live in Sac. I've worked in Sac (I'm a Paramedic) but I live in Nevada City. Most of the time I go to Roseville for all my shopping, etc. But yeah, it'd be nice to hook up!

Who knows? Maybe I'll go to the Apple Store at the mall and get an iPad there, anyway! Arden Fair may be small, but it's not a bad experience at all.

BTW, tried to PM ya but your "inbox" is "full". :-P
