= me giddy as a little kid! :D

The back story:

I got BTstack Mouse the other day from Cydia after seeing a video about how it works. Seemed very neat and I wanted to try it out.

Turns out, the hardest thing about using this tweak is finding a Bluetooth mouse! I didn't have one and I had to go to 3 stores to find one. Finally found one today at Office Max. The only BT mouse they had was from Microsoft - the "Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000."

Brought it home and it hooked right up to the iPad and the BTstack Mouse app. No problem with pairing and it works great. Very entertaining, actually, using a mouse instead of the finger. Quite fun.

While I was out finding/buying the mouse, I finally decided to bite the bullet, so I also bought the Digital AV Adapter at Apple today. I had already gotten DisplayOut at the Cydia store in anticipation of doing some sort of cable hookup to my TV. I was just worried how to set up things using cables and such. I "get" software but hardware? Not so much.

No problem! Plugged the adapter in (used a Belkin 10' HDMI cable - also from Office Max), used SBSettings to fire up DisplayOut, set my TV to the correct source and boom! There's my iPad screen! How cool is that? Perfectly mirrored whatever was happening on the iPad. So, daMomma and I watched a couple of YouTube videos on the "big" screen. Will be very handy...

A 10-foot cable is short, but since I won't be playing games with it, I thought I'd just leave the iPad by the TV and walk over to use it. Then, I thought I'd see how BTstack Mouse worked with this setup. Heh. It's just like having a remote!

The iPad sits flat on the arm of a chair next to the TV. I sit on the sofa, about 10-12 feet from the iPad. Result? The mouse works great! It's as if I am using my finger.

I'm sure I'll think of many reasons to use this setup (other than "because I can"!). For now - I'm loving my jailbroken iPad!

I sooo want to do this but still trying to convince the wife in spending the 50bones for the hdmi adapter is jusified and not just for watching free porn.

also noticed that when this is activated you can't also connect a BT keyboard. :(

bummer...

there is a tweak in cydia to enable both to work. ive seen the video, from tin man i believe, that shows both wrking simultaneously.

I do this all the time! Love it! I have used display out many times but I wish the resolution was better but whatever. The resolution isn't even the same as the iPad, it is like 600x800.

True. You can't have Apple's BT and this BTstack running at the same time (have to make sure the iPad's BT is off before starting this app).

However, there's a $5 (USD) app on Cydia called BTstack Keyboard. Supposedly, you are supposed to be able to use it and the BTstack Mouse together. I read that in order to do this, you'd need Backgrounder to keep one or the other running while you go open the other. Others have said you don't need Backgrounder ... so who knows.

I don't know personally because although I did buy/download BTstack Keyboard, I can't get it to work properly with my Zaggmate keyboard. I can't get the Shift or the CapsLock keys to do their function (I just get symbols as the app tries to tell the keyboard what to do). I've got it stuck in a folder on my iPad for now, 'cause I read that the author is working on making more keyboards compatible with the app (it's not the Zaggmate's fault, it's something in how BTstack runs Bluetooth ... or something like that).

And, since I couldn't get the keyboard to work right, I didn't try to see if I could run both the keyboard and the mouse.

However, on Cydia (or maybe it was a Google search, I can't remember), there is a list of keyboards that this app supposedly works great with. Maybe you've got one on that list...?

Either way - I'll live, for now, without both. The mouse is handier to have than the keyboard anyway - and it's FREE on Cydia.

Think I'm done rambling now. :D
