Camera roll not importing to Imovie

I have used IMovie many times, but recently when I made a video on my IPad, it showed up in the camera roll, but would not show up when I opened IMovie to edit. I updated all software and turned the location services for IMovie to the ON position. Still, when I pull up IMovie to create my project, no videos or photos can be accessed. Am I missing a step?
