Can I xfer movie from DVD to iPad/iTunes?

A friend created a movie on DVD and I'd like to put it on my iPad to play later. Can I do this? I have the DVD and the video file format has a .VOB extension. I am not familiar with this.

You first have to convert the DVD to a video file the iPad can play, then import that into iTunes and then sync it to your iPad.
