Cannot download and install upgrade to iPad

XP with SP3 as OS. iPad with version 4.3 installed. iTunes latest release. Have already tried all of the web based answers to the following error message which pops up after about 10 minutes of the download of the new iPad version. "There was a problem download the software for the iPad......The network connection has time out etc.". I have already disable Norton virus and firewall. Have removed and re-installed iTunes. None of the these solved the problem. Can someone please suggest another set of actions to take? Thanks.

Have you tried to download only and install it later?
Have you tried to turn off your anti virus off for a few minutes that it will take to get the new iOS? My Norton had an option to disable the antivirus for ten minutes or until a restart of the computer. I say had since I'm now on a different program.

Are you trying to get the upgrade via iTunes? It may be that you are having a server connection with Apple. So - have you tried getting the iOS from this forum and then doing, essentially, a manual install of iOS 6.0.1?
