Can't import .ics in mail on ipad2

Hi, why am I unable to import an .ics file from mail into the calendar? The ipad2 manual says I should just open the email and tap on the .ics file. Nothing happens. Please help.

It turns out it works with iCal .ics files, but not with Outlook .ics files. Is there a way around this problem?

Didn't know that. I don't know of anything off the top of my head, but then I've never had to try and convert them.
