Can't keep wifi connection active on home wifi network (Belkin), works fine elsewhere

I have the same problem with a new NETGEAR router.
My computer (running PUPPY Linux) runs happily on the router all day but the IPAD which did access the net for two weeks now says that there is no Internet connection!

It indicates that it has a strong connection to router but can,t see the Internet!

It sounds like an IPAD problem to me!

How does one reset the Ipad's antenna?

I saw your post in the other thread. One of the iPad Forum moderators suggested this...

"This has resolved many issues and worth a try.

- Sometimes after you perform a upgrade from say iOS 3. to iOS 4.2 *the iPad or iPhone wifi or 3G speeds *may be slow.*
- This is an easy fix which does work. Please do the following:
-*
1. Go to Settings->General->Reset
2. Then select "Reset Network Settings" (this will not erase ur devices content, music, videos, email, etc. It will only erase any WiFi networks you have defined).
3. Once your device completes the action and gives you the normal home screen or Passcode screen, go ahead and power your device down and once you are sure the device is fully powered down wait an additional 60sec to allow internal components to fully discharge.
4. After the 60sec is up, power on your device again and re-add any encrypted WiFi networks you had defined.
5. Enjoy the "back to normal" WiFi and 3G speeds like you had prior to the OS upgrade.*

New firmware does seem to solve the issue

Someone posted a link to the new Belkin firmware update in another thread discussing this problem. I tried to go ahead and post it here for anyone still having problems with the ipad loosing connection on the Belkin N+ router, but I guess I haven't made enough posts to be able to supply the link. Anyway since applying the new firmware my ipad has quit loosing its connection.

I did have to download the update from Belkins website and manually apply it since clicking "check firmware" on the router page did not show that the update was available.

Hello guys, im also having problems with keeping my WiFi connection up.
I Have IPad 2 White WiFi version and router Tenda W307R, connection stay up from 30 to 60 min. Can you recommend me exact model of router which works just fine with iPad 1/2?
Thank you

Hi very good news i resolved my problem with a firmware update
Of course i tried this before, but i used belkin.it (the italian site), this time i tried belkin.com and the firmware version was more recent
After installing it (about 2 weeks ago) my Belkin N+ never lost the connection
Hope it helps you

I tried to access the net via MacDonald's free WiFi service and up came the Macdonalds splash screen and I was invited to log in. When I tried to log in, Ipad demanded my password to the looney tunes store and I don.t have one!
What has the itunes store have to do with MacDonalds restaurants and how do I discover an Itunes password?

Ipad is great for displaying my porn collection, but pretty useless for anything else from my experience!

I've had my iPad 2 for 2 days now and no matter if I'm at work or home wifi seems to stop working possible straight after waking from sleep. The solution every time is "settings" wifi off then back on. I must have done that 10 times today. Annoying!

I'm sorry to hear of your experience. There's no link between McDonalds and Apple. But see here for WiFi details

Welcome to the Forum...

Try this - but get back to us if the problem persists...

The easiest first way to try to solve ‘unexplained’ or ‘unusual’ problems with the iPad are:-

Force the offending app to close. If you have iOS 4.2 double-press the ‘Home’ button to bring up the multi-task bar at the bottom of the screen. Press *and hold* any icon until they start to ‘jiggle’. Then tap the top left-hand corner of the app that you want to close. It will ‘disappear’ from the list. Don’t panic - you’ve not deleted it, just closed it. Now tap the Home screen and the multi-task bar will disappear. Re-open the iPad’s app and see if the problem has resolved itself. If not, it’s on to possible solution number two!!
Restart the iPad. Press *and hold* the Power button. After a couple of seconds a slider control will appear asking you to confirm that you really want to switch the iPad off (this is all you’ll be doing). Slide the control to accept. A rotating white ‘bezel’ will appear in the iPad screen as the iPad powers down (it takes a few seconds, just like it would if you were shutting down your PC). When the screen of the iPad has gone completely blank, press *and hold* the Power button for a couple of seconds until the white Apple logo appears and the iPad starts to power up. This takes several seconds, so be patient. During the power up the automatic screen orientation function is disabled, so don’t panic. A few seconds before the power up is complete, the iPad plays a little ‘jingle’ and then you’re back to the Home screen. Restart the iPad’s app and see if the problem persists. Apple (and Forum members) recommend that you power down your iPad at least once a week, just as you might regularly completely switch off your PC. The normal procedure of just briefly pressing the Power button of the iPad merely puts it to ‘sleep’. Most Forum members have found that one of the two methods I’ve mentioned here cure a whole bunch of unexplained problems and are an easy first step to resolving most anything that happens on the iPad.

if your planning to buy a new router, get the WZR-HP-G300NH.

One of the best routers out there at a great price. Comes with DD-WRT installed. Has 1gig WAN port and USB port for NAS or network printer support.

I also like the bandwith tracking and it displays it all in a realtime graph.

I tried this new firmware update for my router (posted very recently, March 4th) and so far it has been working for me! I am reluctant to declare success, because it's only been a couple of days, but I have hope.

Notice that only the v2xxx hardware received this update, and that happens to be the version I have.

Belkin : Support F5D8235-4 N+ Wireless Router - Firmware

When I received my Ipad2 with 4.3 I had no problems. Only after upgrading to 4.3.1 the disconnecting started. With 4.3.2 I hoped the problems would be solved, but....

I followed the suggestion to resetnthe Network settings, but it solved it only for a short while. The disconnecting was increasing and the last few days I had to turn the WiFi off / on every few minutes.

Today I exchanged my Netgear DG834 for a Linksys WAG320n and I am still connected. so, it could be the Ipad in combination with certain routersnthat create a problem.

Another thing I noticed is that with the old router I could never get a DNS address and had to always use a Static IP. With the new router my Ipad found the router and got an IP within seconds.

Fixed it

I updated my belkin n router today and so far no more connection drops. I was plagued with wifi connection problems for over a year on ipad 1. Belkin just released an update that seems to have fixed it. Hallelujah! I was so frustrated with apple for putting out a product that has these problems when no other device, including Iphone 4, was working just fine with the router. I feel so sorry for others who cannot find a fix for their Ipad problems.

this worked for me:

i changed the router security to WPA/PSK from WEP. for some reason ipad2 does NOT like WEP. i only HAD this problem when i am at my parents house. and this change fixed it!

Fortunately for me, I needed a new router anyway. So when the iPad would barely, briefly connect, I got a new Netgear router and have not had any problems.
