What's new

Cars!

My toy is a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe with 31K original miles. One of 540 produced in 1970. It has a 383 engine with an automatic transmission. I am the second owner (bought it from my uncle who bought it brand new), I have owned it since 1984. The car is completely original except for the top. My uncle had it stored in a barn for a few months one summer while he was re-roofing his garage and a piece of wood fell down from the rafters and punctured the top.

These are some quick shots in the garage...

It was purchased in 2001 with 53000 miles on it and now it has 56000 miles. it is a mean car and it was build for Dan Gurney's SCAA (Trans Am) racing class. There were only about 2,724 AAR ‘Cudas produced in the six week time period. There were 1,120 produced with manual 4-speed transmissions, and the remaining 1,614 had the automatic 3-speed transmissions. we are on the registry and there are just over 1300 that still remain...

Not many MOPAR fans out there but for the ones that exist... they know this is a BAD ASS CAR!!!

I can't seem to recall the specifics, but recently saw one of the rare Cuda's Mecum had up for auction go for over $400,000. I think it was the very last one made or something, but not a convertible. Only 7 convertibles exist if I recall(?)

There would be more Mopar fans if they still built cars like your Cuda.

But todays shootout is Camaro, Mustang, Challenger.

And the Challenger loses for being too slow, too expensive, and well, not that well built.

You have spend about an extra 9 grand on top of the 1SS Camaro to get the same performance from the Charger. Not worth it to me.

Both the Charger and the Challenger are boats!

Matt, thats why I actually chose the Genesis... I started out only paying $24,000 (thanks to research prior to buying)... So I am guessing I am about 10,000 under what you paid for the Camaro. Being as close in performance as the two cars are I just couldn't see paying the additional money for a few tenths. Plus have you guys seen the latest MotorTrend? They rated the Genesis Coupe over Challenger SRT8, the Camaro SS, and all other 2+2 Sports Coupes tested. The only thing that beat the Genesis was the 2011 Mustang 5.0 in the overall competition.

On a side note:
I smoked a white Saleen Mustang on Sunday... I pulled up to a stop light and was minding my own business and this jerk in a Saleen Mustang started revving his engine. I guess he thought I would be an easy kill for him... I watched the other traffic light and quickly revved to 3,000 just as the light changed jumped ahead. I stayed ahead with his front bumper even with my rear tires until I realized I was doing right at 80 mph so I shifted from 3rd to 6th and let off the gas. Another two miles down the road I the light changed red and I thought here we go again... as he pulled up I gave him a grin and he just shook his head. Luckily he didn't want to try me twice, I had a perfect launch and not sure I could have done it twice in a row! :D

I paid 30,500 for my Camaro. And I'm not going to put your car down, I just prefer American muscle. Nothing beats the torque and sound of the V8 imo. The SS has about 200 foot pounds of torque more than the 2.0T. And let's be honest, if we wanted to do major upgrades to our cars, who do you think is going to have to buy upgraded rods, pistons, and other internals first?

I can tell you, it isn't going to be me. I could probably push 700+hp easily on stock internals on the Camaro.

:D

Matt, I apologize if you took offense to anything I stated earlier... I wasn't trying to put down your camaro by any means... in fact I respect the SS quite a bit... In fact I agree with you, the sound of a V8 is sick! But for me I couldn't see spending even 5,000 more for a car that honestly doesn't straight outclass a car that is 5,000 cheaper.

Yup I said it, I am a cheap bastard! The cost to performance ratio swayed me toward my Genesis 3.8 and I am happy with it.

Nope no offense at all, believe me I take shit all the time from import guys :D

I hope the same for you :D

I actually looked at the Genesis when I was deciding what my next car would be.

I'm pretty much a car nut myself.
