Contacts and Calendar entries erased.

I have encountered the following issue.
A user enters calendar and contacts into Outlook, and it appears that after the contacts are viewed they disappear from Outlook.
It is said that this was caused by syncing the IPad is there a way to stop this from happening.
 
How are you syncing with the iPad? With the local computer and Outlook or through an Exchange server?

Either way, this isn't typical. The iPad should not be removing anything from Outlook just because it synced.
