Date of picture taken

In the Photo App or Folder how can you tell the date you took the picture? In Windows if you rub your mouse over it will tell the time and date of he picture.*So far I cannot find the answer. I don't want to print the picture date on picture but just see when it was taken. I feel there must be a way of doing it. You can do it Windows by rubbing the mouse over the picture and it gives you the date and time.

What version of iOS are you using? In iOS5 the date and the details of the exposure - f-number, ISO setting, shutter speed and GPS location are recorded and available..
