Digital AV adapter problem

Hello everybody,

I am a new member of the Forum and of course a new iPad user.

Till now I was absolutely happy with the iPad performance and versatility. Now for the first time I have got a problem.
I bought an original Apple Digital AV adapter and was assured that the only think I had to do to duplicate the iPad screen in my TV or monitor was to connect the iPad using the Digital AV adapter and a HDMI good quality cable to my TV or monitor.
I tried both to connect the iPad to my HD TV and to my BenQ computer monitor and the only thing I got is the sound signal going through the TV or the monitor loudspeakers but in both cases the screens remained black no reproducing any video signal.
Have any of you any suggestion how to resolve this problem?
