Disabling "unread" badge if an app is not in Notifications

I have two apps that display the number of "unread" items on the badge on their icons. The problem is that none of these apps are shown in Notifications (where AFAIK you can tweak these things). Is there any other way to disable displaying these badges, if an app is not in Notifications? I checked the apps' settings, but wasn't able to find anything relevant to this.
Or else, could it just be some weird bug then?

You've probably done this, but did you go all the way down to the list of not include apps in the notification settings? It is possible to set badges without the apps showing up in notification center.

Also, iOS 6 or 7?

I'm struggling to remember exactly what the notification center looked like in iOS 6, already. *sigh* In some settings there's a Show All at the bottom of lists that will extend the number of apps that are listed.

Yep, I did all that, checked the "In Notification Center" and "Not In Notification Center" sections over and over again, but the app just wasn't there. This is for iOS 6, but this part is about the same as on 7 (except it says "Include" and "Do Not Include").
The only rational explanation would be that it's possible for developers to do this without the use of these settings (although it is kind of hard to believe).

(I believe Show All pertains to displaying storage space, though.)

Did you check the settings within the app itself? Sometimes, they have their own settings that don't go into the "official" Settings app. Maybe this'll be the case...?

I did, as stated in the original post. :) Wrote a message to the author, hope they can figure something out.

D'oh! You'd think I'd've learned how to read by now. Sorry, my bad.

Here' shopping the developer(s) can help...

According to their reply, that's how it is -- i.e. it's apparently possible that an app shows unread count on the badge, without being in the Notifications (so you actually have to read the articles or tap "mark as read" within the app).
I thought Apple wouldn't let something like this to exist ;) (but then again, they have plenty of other "surprises", e.g. the new iOS 7 Privacy settings include Microphone access, but conveniently forget about Cameras access...).
