Hey guys,
I have been following this thread for a long time and I thought I would add my experiences with breeding the sun and rainbow dragons. I moved my breeding cave, the hatchery, rainbow and sun habitats to a private island with no other habitats or boosts. (I do have moon habitats on the same island but have yet to breed moon)
I used Blue fire dragon on the left and Crystal dragon on the right. After 3 breeds I got a rainbow, then my very next breed I got another rainbow (so I have two now yay!!!) then my 3rd attempt I got a sun dragon. Now just waiting for my 4th attempt to finish, it was only 14 hours so it won't be anything special. So the blue fire and crystal combo works really well.
If anyone wants to see the way I did my island then you are welcome to add me. My game center name is Qualara. I hope this helps someone. :)

I want à new Island! But I guess it's time to redecorate like you and shaveXXX J

I have problems redecorate, I think My Islands are quite good as they are. Do you know if it's better to just get rid of the boosts?
 
I found a glitch in giving gems. Use all you have, visit someone that can give you some more gems, use it, visit another then go back to the one that gave you more gems. Rinse and repeat.

Gl in recieving gems back though, im lucky in getting 5 a day even though im sending everyone a gem everyday.
 
YES! I smashed the boost on the Island where I have My cave and breeding, and breed blue fire+crystal.. Something is cooking for 48 h!!!!!!

Someone here works for backflip lol.. The option to send again is gone. Oh well at least no internal error anymore :)

Yeah, just loaded the new update and there is no longer the option to gift gems when you go to your friends list from a friend's page. I'm glad I made use of it while we had it.

I been trying it for a week now and still nothing.
I tried without boosts on island, with only sun and rainbow habitat on the same island, switch breeding order. I have all the goals done except rainbow, and all gold trophies except fire.
Maybe it's the trophies? Maybe u need all 7 gold trophies?
Btw nobody gave me feed back on my island design :(

Trophies make no difference in breeding. I still am missing 2 golds, but I have 2 rainbows, 3 suns, and 3 moons.

Btw, Blue Fire + Crystal gave me a sun. Blazing + Crystal gave me my first rainbow. Sonic + Storm gave me 2 suns and 3 moons. Seaweed + Firefly gave me my second rainbow. Try some of those combos. Sonic + Storm seems to yield the most special dragons.

I'm not sure if you need all the gold trophies or not. I don't think so but maybe someone else will comment that has the special dragons but not all the trophies. I've been trying for a few weeks for rainbow and nothing for me yet. Then I switched and had been trying to get sun or moon. Still nothing. I really wonder if it is how the dragons were bred that we are using and if they have all the elements needed. Hope you understand what I mean. Anyways I don't think I've had any feedback from anyone on here of things I've posted. I just looked at your islands and I think they look great! Good job! I look forward to reading what you put on there. For me at this point I will take all the help and suggestions I can get! Lol I know I'm doing something wrong but haven't figured it out yet.

I have tried all of those too! Doesn't seem to be working either... I'm trying to get my storm to level 10 so it'll work better...
