What's new

Facebook will soon automatically grab your iOS photos and post them online

Data mining is very lucrative. Just look at all those loyalty cards out there. You members out there didn't think the stores give out discount and club cards out of the goodness of their hearts, did you?

I always tell clerks that I'll take an application to fill out later, and they give me a card. Then I throw away the application and just use the cards, lol. I don't mind if they track my purchases, but I don't give them my personal info. When asked for info otherwise, I just tell sales people I don't give it out.

Good post, Louisa. Privacy is taken very seriously in Canada, for which I'm thankful. Unfortunately, people in some other countries don't share our rights.

Like you, I use FB for close friends and family, and don't enjoy my personal info being extracted by default.

"Options" such as this should always be opt-in rather than opt-out.

Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated. Excuse my slow response but I am new to this kind of social networking or whatever I should be calling this forum. Learning about how to get around and love everything I read. Hope to gradually get more involved with various topics. Hope you will be patient. I am an old lady who loves her iPad but is just learning so much daily and the learning curve at my age of near 70 is not exactly at the same speed it was when I was in college...many years ago. This is my first experience with a mobile device and my tech knowledge is very elementary. I am loving all the many things I am being exposed to with this iPad and so glad I have it. Sure beats bingo or bridge!!!! Thanks again. Louisa

This is because you grant them permission to do just about anything they want...

Actually, I don't get anywhere near Facebook. I hate it, along with every other silly social website. I never understood why something is called social when zero human interaction is required and you are socializing from your bedroom possibly in just underwear or whatever. Ain't nothing social about it. Do these heavy social website users even know how to interact with other living creatures without a screen and keyboard in front of them! Geesh whizz. Guess I'm getting old, I never understood the point of al this. Do people really care what others are doing on an hourly basis? Can't you just call and talk? Just don't get it. But , a zillion people can't be wrong, right? ;)

Sums up Facebook nicely, I reckon.

Seems its a place for school kids to swear at each other, and adults to spam each other with other people's humor.

Wow, sometimes look into the app and read about it. I simply opened the app on my phone, went to my profile, then my photos. There was a button on the bottom called "Synched" Not only do you HAVE to enable it, but you also HAVE to mark them public after they upload. Dont forget, you can ALWAYS go into the iOS device Settings -> Privacy -> Photos and turn off Facebook Support.

Over-react much?

I guess not everybody has this feature yet, it doesn't appear on my Facebook page.

ya, i have been slowley pushing away facebook. Its just becoming too intrusive. I feel like even when a ton of users protest a feature, they go ahead with it anyway knowing we will just accept it.

Facebook used to have a feature where users could vote on a new feature and if enough voters voted no, the feature would be dropped. This voting ability has been removed from the latest version of the Facebook terms and conditions, the same one that's introducing photo sharing.

That still doesn't take away our ability to vote with out feet, or in this case fingers. I can see FB disappearing from my iPad very soon. I only have a couple of contacts that I can't keep in touch with any other way, so if they are prepared to use a different media, I can be Facebook free.

It doesnt appear on my iPad, just iPhone. You may not have been "choosen" to test. Me, I have it disabled.

At least, however, it looks like no matter what, it has to be both enabled and you have change the privacy settings. The issue becomes that now, once uploaded, one of copyright. One reason I put nothing but junk photos up and only use FB to mess with people. I just cant take it seriously.

Would that mean the possibility of copyright infringement action against Facebook or anybody downloading the pictures?
