Facetime verifying

My son has a new iPad3. He wants to use Facetime with several people. So we added these several people to contacts. These additions were known iPad users. Opened Facetime and it started verifying and verifying and verifying and verifying and verifying.
I finally canceled Facetime. What is causing that behavior?

Hello make sure you are on wifi mode when using FaceTime, I think

I have the same problem verifying to FT and i'm surely logged in with Wi-Fi.

You need to connect FaceTime to an email address that has to be verified as belonging to you. Also anyone you contact via FaceTime has to do this as well. It is not simply a matter of entering their contact info.

Look in Setting | FaceTime to set up your email addresses.
