Yeah just like an iPhone. Lmao! I was wondering what would be the point behind a smaller iPad.

Actually, a 7" version makes a lot of sense, for a lot of reasons.

Lower price may make it more feasible for some, especially now that Apple is getting into the text book market. I wouldn't spend $499+ on a device for my kids for school, but I would consider spending the $250-300 touted by the rumor mill.

The smaller size could also be a draw for some. I kept hold of my old e-reader when I got my iPad and even bought a Kindle Fire because I preferred the smaller size for reading. I still do, though my Fire has gone by the wayside because the retina display has spoiled me. A smaller iPad would work for me. In the same vein, casino hosts and waitresses at my DH's work cart around iPod touches to enrol folks into the players club on the fly. They use the iPod because the iPad is too large for them to carry easily, but they often get complaints about the small screen size, both from staff and customers. A 7" screen could be the perfect solution.

Just two off the top of my head ... Well, three - Apple could well make a chunk of money by offering up a more affordable alternative!

We have a poll that discussing the feasibility of a smaller iPad. I would suggest looking through that to get more input. I think this thread should be about whether or not the the ship has a hPad with dock for the ihelicopter.

Hardly revolutionary.

The rumors I've heard say that Phillipe Starck might be designing the new Apple TV set.Nothing firm, though.

There is really nothing left in that field that could be revolutionary as long as place shifting remains a crime. All other areas have been explored thoroughly and really ATV barely scratches the surface compared to its competitors.

I also wouldn't think a different sized iPad would be revolutionary either.

There are still plenty of areas though that have been tried (like tablets pre-iPad) and have mostly failed or failed to gain acceptance. One of the more interesting that I think we have the technology for is screen goggles with hand gesture navigation. I think all the bits and pieces are out there but someone has to put it all together and get it small enough and comfortable enough to wear. I am not suggesting that is what Apple is doing but just an example of something like tablets that have been around for quite some time but never really got off the ground until Apple did it.

Does it need to be? Above all, Apple is a business. While revolutionizing technology is an admirable goal, sometimes you have to stick with what makes good sense.

I do agree though, it's not the revolutionary product set to be unveiled (I wouldn't consider a yacht to be either). But I wasn't answering that question, just the query as to the point of a smaller model.

This thread is about the designer referring to a "revolutionary" product that's supposed to debut.

I doubt what he says anyway, give that Apple is crazy secret and he probably would've had to sign an agreement to hand over all his internal organs if he divulged real product info.

And even then, one persons revolution is another persons unpleasant trudge through muck.

Unsure if stated already but this the revolutionary device is a yacht being built for the Jobs' family.

Oops...seems yes this is known but questionable.

Probably not likely that Apple would produce muck, unless we're talking about iTunes, lol.

Ugh, iTunes. LOL.

But my definition of revolutionary may differ from someone else's and it's such a broad jumping off point. I would likely consider bringing technology and educational advantages to low-income students via a smaller, more affordable iPad far more revolutionary than designing a fancy floating toy for the elite. But as someone that comes from a coastal town on a brutal and unforgiving stretch of ocean, I'd consider designing an on-board navigational system that would help reduce fatalities pretty darn revolutionary.
