What's new

Food anyone?

WELL, I delayed joining this thread - active in another 'diner' forum on a classical music website (BOY, could I drag plenty of posts from there!) - BUT, since I've retired now 2+ years & updated our porch and outside gas grill (Weber), now I'm called upon to grill at least once a week!

Tonight, I did some Baby Back Pork Ribs - cut a full rack 'about' in half and applied a rub (Memphis rub from a recipe in Raichlen's Barbecue Bible) - also used a recipe from the same book to cook the ribs (this is my third try in adjusting the amount of 'heat' desired which is different for myself & wife) - below is a pic of the results - half rack of grilled & hickory smoked ribs w/ a tart homemade cole slaw - for me a Pinot Noir wine (beer would have been better); wife choose a beer (local IPA brewery) - also attached is a file of both the rub & the cooking directions - wife's half rack was thicker, so only took about 45 minutes - mine a half hour - SO, if you like this recipe, test the 'heat-ness' over several trials and also the cooking time. Dave :)

Hi Carol - wife & I have been 'foodies' for decades, plus I have NOW a small wine cellar (maxed out @ 700+ bottles in the late 80s/90s) - my favorite 'red' wine at the moment is Pinot Noir - purchased now mainly from CA & Oregon (no longer buy the Burgundy wines - too expensive & hard to pic in my area - use to have a nice collection of these Frenchies) - SO, La Crema is a nice valued PNoir and I order the wine often in a restaurant or buy locally - just picked up a few bottles @ my local Harris Teeter w/ a $6 reduction in price/bottle - the ribs were GREAT - juicy and w/ heat! Dave :)

That sounds excellent, Dave! Your wine cellar sounds quite impressive--but will you ever be able to drink all that wine, or will you need some help? We can all come over and help you on that! :)

My husband and I spent some time in Glacier and Yellowstone national Park and drank a lot of the local wines there. Gosh they were very good reds. Nice and smooth! Loved it with my elk stroganoff! :)

Hi Leelai - SO many options w/ ribs - these tonight were juicy & peppery - next time I'll 'kick down' the heat a little for both of us - I like ribs dry and Susan a little moist so a lot of decisions for me to make - maybe I should become a frequent visitor to this thread? :D Dave

I haven't had a rib yet that I didn't like......I lean more to the moist side, especially with a nice sauce.

Sounds like a good plan Dave to become a frequent visitor.....especially if you bring those recipes with you!

And now I really need to go find myself something to eat, all this thinking of ribs has made me very hungry! ;)

Hi you two! :) My 'Wine Cellar' is now down to about 10 cases (Susan was no longer interested & we had fewer people over), BUT still some nice ones to drink. I'll plan to revisit this thread - seems to be getting more interest than my other one! Thanks for the comments - Dave :)

Well, I left a 'nice' thread (prejudiced I guess - ;)) in the Travel Forum HERE about a recent trip to the far eastern end of Long Island, New York - I've had no responses (little traffic despite my 3 posts w/ pics); BUT, for those interested in FOOD - take a look @ my second post - if you like shellfish, then you'll be wanting to go there, if in the vicinity! ;) :D Dave
