Food anyone?

Was looking good until I hit Spumoni ice cream........that just didn't sound good at all!

I've never heard of it here, so I had a look......now I see why it would be soooo good.....

The name just throws me though.....maybe it's pronounced differently to what I'm thinking! :O
 
Well, I've not been active on this thread for a while although we are still eating well! :)

BUT, I must mention a delicious bagel-type bake good called a Bialy this is like a bagel but not boiled first, just baked but first filled in the middle w/ some goodies, including onions - my wife buys these occasionally but I just cannot resist - bake in a toaster oven and then melt some butter - WOW!

I grew up in the mid-west (Michigan) USA - married a Jewish girl from New Jersey and was introduced to such delicious foods, as bagels (and their kin, such as a bialy), smoke salmon, matzo ball soup, and so many other treats - however, if you've not had a 'good' bialy, then a recommendation - pic below shows a comparison of a bagel vs. a bialy - both are great - Dave :)

Hi Dave. I've never had a bagel until last year on a ship's cruise. I've always loved smoked salmon, so early in the cruise I ordered a traditional Lox for breakfast, properly presented with the cream cheese, red onion and even down to the capers. It was so good, and made an interesting change from a breakfast egg dish, that I repeated several times. (Meaning I had the same dish at a number of breakfasts;))

Hi Andrew - smoked salmon on a bagel w/ all of the 'fixings' is a favorite of mine - my introduction was back in 1969 - I spent 2 weeks w/ Susan's family in New Jersey (Short Hills, a community outside Newark and a short bus trip into NYC) - was a pre-wedding trip for them to 'check me out', I guess! ;)

But I was introduced to lox & bagels then, and have eaten the combo ever since - her mother usually bought 'nova' (just Nova Scotia salmon but a little more expensive than lox at least @ that time); have also had the same on a bialy, so another recommendation.

Salmon is one of my favorite fishes - order it raw @ sushi bars (typically alternate between raw vs. smoked variety), smoked in a wide variety of ways (and have smoked it myself), and of course cooked - love a cedar-plank salmon, which I've also done on the grill (and order @ our local mountain bistro). Tonight we're eating at our close-by Japanese restaurant, so w/ my sashimi course, a little smoked salmon will be in my order! Dave :)
 
An interesting story of the bialy and the Mel Brooks production called The Producers, which was made into the movie of the same name w/ Zero Mostel & Gene Wilder released in 1967 (and remade in 2005 w/ Nathan Lane & Matthew Broderick) - own both of these movies although I like the first one the best.

Zero's (and Lane's) character is named Max Bialystock, picked by the clever Mel Brooks after the name of a city in Poland - the BIALY... in that name was used for the used for naming of the bagel-like roll (Source) - below yet another pic (click to enlarge) of this delicious treat! Dave :)

Bialy, a Yiddish word short for bialystoker kuchen, from Białystok, a city in Poland, is a small roll that is a traditional dish inPolish and Polish Ashkenazi cuisine. A traditional bialy, or cebularz as it is known in Poland, has a diameter of up to 15 cm (6 inches) and is a chewy yeast roll similar to a bagel. Unlike a bagel, which is boiled before baking, a bialy is simply baked, and instead of a hole in the middle it has a depression. Before baking, this depression is filled with diced onions and other ingredients, including (depending on the recipe) garlic, poppy seeds, or bread crumbs.

Well tonight, Susan cooked us Australian Rack of Lamb (a favorite) - just a side of sautéed broccolini and some Pinot Noir (La Crema from California) - I have a LOT of dental work, so I cut around the bones and let her gnaw on them - she's my 'Bone Woman' - ;)

Well tonight, Susan cooked us Australian Rack of Lamb (a favorite) - just a side of sautéed broccolini and some Pinot Noir (La Crema from California) - I have a LOT of dental work, so I cut around the bones and let her gnaw on them - she's my 'Bone Woman' - ;)

Done to perfection Dave and lucky her, say I! Half the fun of consuming a great lamb chop or a big juicy lamb shank is gnawing at the bones. Although I must admit the only time I broke a tooth was doing just that;)

That looks so good, it reminds me of something Jamie Oliver would cook on his show.
